About Smart Somatics

 A Person Centred Approach

During our 1st Feldenkrais Session, my initial thought will be  “how can I help you move from one place to the next without hesitation and with ease”.  We will start by discussing your issues, considering your own history and environment.  My aim is to help you find a better way to move, reduce pain and improve your quality of life.

This approach is coupled with my functional knowledge and over 25 years experience to help guide you to explore new possibilities in your thoughts and movements.  This can have a dramatic effect on your relationship with pain, function, confidence, self-image, health and mental wellbeing.

The sessions are not only based on my expertise but also what you bring, your concerns, your wishes, your movement, your history and your environment.

I invite you to become the expert on you!  Thus realising and achieving your potential, and using that platform to propel your life into any direction you desire.

Wayne Farrage

I am a Feldenkrais Practitioner, Soft Tissue Therapist and Movement Coach.  My journey through the therapy world has been varied and exciting, spanning nearly 30 years.  During this time I have worked at an elite level in International Athletics, Dancing, Martial Arts, West End Musicals and Professional Football.

Wayne Farrage, Feldenkrais Smart Somatics

It is in Professional Football where I have been from 1997-2020, working at numerous top Premier League clubs and from 2011-2020 at Newcastle United Football Club.  Alongside this I have also worked in the Private Clinic environment.  Whilst still working as a specialist within professional sport, I now predominantly work privately with members of the public.

I have helped people move with more ease for nearly 30 years.  However, since graduating as a Feldenkrais Practitioner I see movement in a whole new perspective.  Helping someone find, or regain, a skeletal connection in their movement, which can then give them an improved level of support and confidence in their lives, has had a profound impact on my life.  When I help people using Feldenkrais it is not just about helping people move easier, it can (because of the neuroplastic effects) literally change the structure of the brain, which can have lasting benefits.  I am now interested in how you explore and develop these new connections; this opens a cascade of new opportunities and possibilities physically, mentally and emotionally.  You will then move better, function the way you want and will be on the path to finding your own personal good health and happiness.

The Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method is at the leading edge of the emerging field of somatic education.  Based on the work of "Moshe Feldenkrais" (1904-1984) and influenced by his expertise in physics, engineering and judo, the Feldenkrais Method draws together both the science and the art of human movement.  It is unique in that it is based on sound mechanical and neurological principles and yet is easily accessible through simple practical lessons.

This method of re-educating the nervous system can be beneficial to a wide range of people, including athletes, children, the elderly, martial artists, dancers and performing artists, those with disabilities and specialised needs, and those suffering from degenerative diseases.

The Feldenkrais Method is a system for learning efficient and coordinated movement through neuroplasticity.  Students take lessons for a variety of reasons, including to improve physical comfort, reduce chronic pain, increase performance in sports or dance, or promote self-awareness for personal development.

During a session at Smart Somatics you become aware of the differences in your movement, helping you create opportunities to learn more efficient patterns of movement, which will give you greater choice and autonomy in your life.  Improvement can often be noticed in a single session

By exploring and developing these ideas further you can experience physical and emotional improvements.  This is where Feldenkrais really stands out and for many people it can have a truly profound and positive effect in all aspects of their life.
